US: Coke Contract Ratified for Over 500 in New England

The RWDSU, one of the IUF's affiliates in the United States representing Coca-Cola workers, reports ratification of a new collective bargaining agreement after difficult but successful bargaining for over 500 Coca-Cola workers in New England.

The company had demanded serious concessions in benefits, health care plan, and contract language protecting workers from casualisation, which the bargaining committee however fought back.

Tina Buonagurio, New England Joint Board President and member of the IUF "Atlanta Team", commented on the attempt to implement language that would allow them to outsource anumber of union jobs and create part-time positions in the plants:“This was an outrageous concession demand, and one that they sprungon us at the last minute. It was unacceptable and wekept it out of the contract. This was also the case for managementattempts to change many of the full-time jobs to part-time jobs.
