Uruguay: 199 more permanent jobs at the Coca-Cola plant

After a year of discussions, mediated by the Labour Ministry, Coca-Cola in Uruguay has accepted important union demands: over the last months, 199 workers have been regularised, including 74 during the last week.

During the economic crisis in the country in 2002/2003, the company, like many others, had taken advantage of the situation and widely casualised the workforce. The recent achievement is seen as an important step to regain lost ground and strengthen the union, integrating a new generation of workers into a organisation with a strong tradition.
