US: Teamsters on strike at Coca-Cola Consolidated

July 15. Teamsters in Southwest Alabama and Southeast Missouri went on strike at Coca-Cola Bottlers Consolidated facilities in Tillman's Corner, Robertsdale, Leroy and Vancleave after talks with the employer about a new contract broke down. At stake are first of all benefits for retirees - while workers, represented by Teamsters local 991, demand increased payments into their pension plans, the company wants to replace the current system with a what is know in the US as a 401(k) plan, which would considerably worsen the conditions, especially for veteran workers (A 401k retirement plan is a special type of account funded through pre-tax payroll deductions).

US: Teamsters win contract in Oceanside

July 13. Teamsters at Coca-Colas warehouse in Oceanside, California, overwhelmingly voted in favour of their first collective bargaining agreement. The agreement brings important improvements in the health care plan. Workers had been on strike for the agreement since July 1 and Teamsters local 683, which represents the workers, reported overwhelming support from the local community.

Honduras: SABMiller, Pepsico and Coca Cola impose extensive working hours

The Union of Beverage Workers (STIBYS) has started a campaign to complain against and raise awareness about the effects and consequences of the extensive working hours of up to 16 hours per day imposed by SABMiller, Pepsico and Coca Cola.
