US: Coca-Cola Co agrees territory deal with Coca-Cola Bottling Company United

The Coca-Cola Co has sold a bottler to Alabama’s Coca-Cola Bottling Company United as part of a plan to hand territory to its franchisees.

The company has offloaded Alabama-based Scottsboro Coca-Cola to Coca-Cola United for an undisclosed fee, it was confirmed on May 27.

In April last year, the soft drinks producer announced it had signed agreements with five US bottlers, giving them new, expanded territories. The move is part of an initiative by Coca-Cola to return to a franchise model in North America, as opposed to owning bottlers.
