Nestlé delivers on cash but fails on rights – stop Nespressure on Indonesian Workers!

For more than 3 years, Nestlé has been violating basic trade union rights at its Nescafé factory in Panjang, Indonesia. When the IUF-affiliated SBNIP, recognized for ten years as the union representing workers, sought to exercise the fundamental right to negotiate the terms and conditions of employment, members were harassed, transferred and placed under workplace video surveillance. When intimidation and repression failed, the company created a fake ‘union’ – a ‘Communication Forum’ founded at a 5-star hotel during a company award ceremony! – and insists it must be part of any ‘negotiation’.

Nestlé vaunts the cash it delivers regularly to shareholders, but can’t deliver on basic rights. Three years is a long time to be kept waiting for fundamental rights.
