Coca-Cola Korea Unions Demand CBA Renewal, Employment Guarantees in Company Selloff

The IUF-affiliated unions representing workers at Coca-Cola's Korean operation - the Coca-Cola Korea Bottling Company (CCKBC) - have warned of strike action if anchor bottler Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) rejects their demands for CBA renewal and job guarantees as conditions of the planned sale of the company.

In an April 27 press release, the unions demanded full disclosure of the list of potential bidders for the company and insisted that CCA provide written guarantees of union recognition, continuation of the collective agreement and employment security as conditions of any sale. The unions also insisted that the private equity fund CVC be excluded from the potential bidders, contending that "private equity funds have had a harmful effect on the Korean economy and have disregarded workers' rights."

Negotiations between the company and the unions are continuing.
