ACCUP prepares national campaign against outsourcing & contractualization

From 8 to 10 August 2005, an Alliance of Coca-Cola Unions Philippines (ACCUP) Council Strategic Meeting was held in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines. The Strategic Meeting, organized jointly with IUF-NCCGP and IUF A/P, was attended by 44 participants, including the ACCUP Executive Board and Leadership Council, and union board members and shop stewards from the sales force union in Cagayan de Oro.

Included in the strategic discussion was IUF's global strategy, in particular the IUF joint statement with Coca-Cola (15 March 2005). The ACCUP Council welcomed the joint statement as a vital step in global recognition of union rights throughout the Coca-Cola system, and expressed strong support for IUF-NCCGP activities.

On this basis the ACCUP Strategic Council Meeting produced an action plan for 2006 to gain national recognition and advance a national framework agreement with the company, and passed a resolution against outsourcing, casualization & contractualization as an attack on job security and trade union rights.

The resolution will be formally adopted at the ACCUP Convention on 9-10 September 2005.
