Australian seafarers, dockers say Stop Nespressure!

The Maritime Union of Australia, representing seafarers, dockers and port workers, showed its solidarity with the struggles of Nestlé workers in Indonesia and Pakistan by adopting a strong support resolution at the organization's annual conference in Sydney on March 2.

The conference resolution "recognizes the struggle of the workers in the Nestle factories in Pakistan and Indonesia for the right to form a union and negotiate a fair contract" and condemns "the campaign of violence, intimidation and discrimination by Nestle management towards workers who support the union."

Further, "MUA commits to educating union members in Australia about Nestle's treatment of workers and to monitor the situation in the Panjang, Indonesia plant for which Australia is a key export market."

The resolution asks the union to be kept "informed of developments in these and any other disputes involving Nestle and commits to solidarity with Nestle workers in their fight for their fundamental human and labour rights."
