Given the squeeze on Mondelēz cash flow, and top management’s hunger for top compensation, it is not surprising that the birth of Mondelēz was accompanied by a cascade of plant closures and more outsourcing.

Mondelēz is a company dripping risk – human rights risks, reputational risks and potential financial risks. Will it change course? Reinstatement of dismissed trade union leaders and members in Egypt, good faith negotiations with their unions and engagement with the IUF, which represents the huge majority of Mondelēz workers worldwide, would mark an essential first step in Mondelēz assuming its human rights responsibilities.
