France: Wage increase agreement ends Tereos strike

A seven-day strike (15-22 October) in six Tereos beet processing plants involving members of three unions, including the IUF affiliates, CFDT and FO-FGTA, ended with an agreement that provided a total wage increase of 1.1 percent – retroactive to 1 July – and a 0.30 percent in individual increases.

Tereos is a farmer cooperative reckoned as one of the world’s largest sugar and ethanol producers. In France, the company accounts for about 40 percent of the total sugar production. Tereos sugar operations include facilities in  Romania, the Czech Republic and a refinery in Spain, and the company has direct concerns or joint ventures in Brazil, Reunion, Tanzania and Mozambique.
