Kenya: Impact of the IUF Sugar work on the OSH conditions in the sugar subsector

Under the IUF Sugar project in Kenya and South Africa, the Kenya Union of Sugar Plantation Workers Union (KUSPAW) further developed an in-depth work on Occupational Safety and Health conditions in the country’s sugar subsector.

As the Food and Allied Workers Union (FAWU) of South Africa organised their first-ever Sugar Conference and was also a union participating in the IUF Sugar project, it was deemed important to increase union solidarity and exchange of experiences, for a KUSPAW delegate to present the results of the IUF Sugar/KUSPAW work. Miriam Wanyama made such presentation. She is the Chairperson of the Women’s Committee, Nzoia Branch, and the secretary for the union’s national Women’s Committee.
