Amnesty International has launched a new action in response to the sentencing of two Iranian union leaders.

Tehran transport workers' union activist Reza Shahabi and Teachers' Association activist Rasoul Bodaghi were both recently sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for their union engagement.

In response to the news of the sentencings, the IUF 26th Congress adopted an emergency resolution condemning the government's systematic repression of trade union activity, including repression against the IUF-affiliated Haft Tapeh Sugar Workers Union; and pledged full support for the struggle for independent trade unions in Iran.
