December 2012 was a big month for takeovers and expansion in the North American Dairy market.

Saputo, Canada's largest dairy processor agreed to buy Morningstar Foods from Dean Foods for $1.45b in the largest takeover of a dairy company globally this year. Chobani, with the largest share of the U.S. Greek yoghurt market, opened the world's largest yoghurt plant in Twin Falls Idaho. Meanwhile Coca Cola partnered with US based Select Milk Producers to invest in a high protein milk shake brand.The move marks Coke's first steps into the US dairy sector.
