Unite has signed a 5-year training agreement establishing apprenticeships at the UK operations of pladis, the transnational biscuit, chocolate and confectionery company owned by Turkish conglomerate Yildiz Holding. Under the agreement close to 50 engineering apprentices will be recruited and trained by 2020 in the repair and maintenance of processing and packaging equipment at the company's seven UK sites, with the full involvement of Unite members.

Pladis (with a small 'p') was established in 2016 when Yildiz split off its biscuit, chocolate and confectionery unit to establish a separate transnational company bringing together United Biscuits, Ulker, Godiva and DeMet's Candy.
