At the beginning of September this year, Milcobel, Belgium's largest dairy cooperative announced it would close its factory in Schoten with the loss of 167 jobs.

Negotiations over the social plan stalled when the company insulted long standing employees with an inadequate offer on the compensation. Members of IUF affiliates Horval-FGTB and ACV-CSC went on strike and milk could not be processed.

After 7 days of picketing and occupation an agreement was reached between the company and the union. The compensation is now based on the number of years of service with no maximum limit.
