Danone's response to COVID-19 gets general support from IUF affiliates

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Danone has announced important measures and significant benefits provided to all employees world-wide in a letter from the Executive Committee of Danone on March 24, 2020. The IUF has been assured by Danone that all employees world-wide have received a copy of this letter.

 

Union organizing wins at Danone USA

On February 27 and 28, workers at the Danone yogurt and plant-based powder plant in Dubois, Pennsylvania voted overwhelmingly to become members of the IUF-affiliated BCTGM Local 19. The representation win follows a massive vote for representation by the IUF-affiliated UFCW at the Danone plant in Dallas, Texas last June following a determined organizing campaign.

 

 

Danone Rosenheim workers march to save their jobs

The IUF-affiliated German Food and Allied Workers Union (NGG) is continuing its fight to save jobs at Danone Rosenheim dairy plant that the company plans to close at the end of July 2021.

On February 20, 2020, NGG and its members at Danone Rosenheim organized another demonstration at the factory gate preceded by a march through the streets of Rosenheim under the banner "People before Profit". German Food Workers Union video - part of a campaign to save jobs at Danone Rosenheim

On January 22, 2020, Danone announced the closure of the Rosenheim dairy plant at the end of July 2021, and its intention to discuss the closure with the plant works council. The IUF-affiliated German Food and Allied Workers Union (NGG) that represents the Rosenheim workers organized a demonstration at the Rosenheim factory to protest the closure and the lack of any detailed justification from Danone.

Turkey: IUF-affiliate signs first collective agreement at Danone Sırma Waters

IUF-affiliate Tobacco, Drink, Food and Allied Workers Union of Turkey (Tekgıda-İş) organized the majority of workers in the Sırma Waters business which was acquired by Danone in 2013. The union had successfully applied for bargaining unit status with the Labour Ministry.  However the local management appealed this certification as would normally happen in Turkey as part of most employers' efforts to delay and deny workers' rights.

Belgium: ACV-CSC signs a local agreement limiting casual employment at Danone dairy plant

The IUF-affiliated Food and Services Union (ACV-CSC) successfully negotiated a local agreement with Danone Dairy Belgium on the basis of the IUF-Danone Agreement on Sustainable Employment and Access to Rights. The local agreement provides Danone Rotselaar dairy plant workers with a concrete list of functions which can and cannot be done by agency workers, particularly for safety reasons.

Danone to shut down its dairy business in India
