African Unions pledge: “Children to School, Adults to Work, Zero Tolerance to Child Labour”!
We the participants from the following countries: Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, Lesotho, South Africa, Denmark and Uganda at the IUF and 3F Southern Africa, Health and Safety Training, Agriculture, Food, Beverages Tobacco sectors,14-18 May,2007,Maputo-Mozambique would like to associate ourselves with the World Day Against Child Labour,2007 that will focus on Child Labour in Agriculture.
During our discussion on the hazards and risks in agriculture faced by agricultural workers we noted that children working in agriculture are more vulnerable and the effects of exposure to these hazards will have an everlasting image on their lives. We recognise and fully support the effort s of ILO-IPEC and the international Agricultural organisation including the IUF towards eliminating child labour in agriculture.
On our part we pledge our commitment individually and collectively towards achieving the ILO goal of eliminating of the worst forms of child labour by the year 2016
We shall use all the opportunities available to do this for during our health and safety training activities, union meetings where we shall disseminate information to the workers about the dangers of child labour. We shall bear upon our unions to mainstream child labour questions into the our trade union activities.
Collectively and individually we shall make known the provisions of ILO Conventions among the workers, their families and the communities.
We are urging all IUF affiliates to include in the CBAs prohibition of child labour.
We urge all IUF affiliates in particularly the agricultural workers and their trade unions to come out on Tuesday, 12th June 2007 to mark the World Day Against Child Labour.
Children to school, adults to work, zero tolerance to child labour!
