DEFOI Women Leadership training
The IUF and Dairy Employees' Federation of India organized a 2 day women's leadership training programme in December 2013. The programme aimed at equipping women, about 64% of whom are precarious workers, with the tools to be more vocal at their workplace and in their unions.
An open forum provided the platform for women to discuss issues - at the workplace, in the home and as precarious workers. A session on sexual harassment highlighted the need for it to be understood as a union issue. Impromptu exercises/games were organized to energize and bring more dynamism in the group. The meeting resulted in a plan of action and set of demands that was presented to the DEFOI executive committee, out of which the demand to have 40% women representation in the executive committee was passed and will take place in the next DEFOI general body meeting.
