New Zealand Dairy Workers Union establishes Youth Committee
The 2018 Congress of the New Zealand Dairy Workers Union Te Runanga Wai U (NZDWU) resolved to establish a youth committee to identify and engage with members who are 35 years and under and to create a structure that encourages young members to become more involved in the governance and operation of their union.
This gives effect to the 2017 IUF Congress resolution which called on affiliates to implement inclusive strategies where young members are given greater responsibility and trust to influence union policies and actions through active participation in leadership and decision making bodies
The NZDWU youth committee will join the runanga (indigenous peoples committee) and womens’ committee as the third special interest group to advise the executive and to develop more union leaders.
