The Global March against child labour (GM), a coalition of trade unions and NGOs, has adopted a comprehensive Framework of Action against child labour in agriculture. The Framework was developed at an international conference in Washington from July 28-30, 2012.

Kailash Satyarthi, chair of GM commented “This is not just a piece of paper but an important tool for advocacy and action in favour of children’s rights and for concrete actions towards making agriculture free from child labour. He called for strengthened coordination to tackle child labour in agriculture in particular and all forms of child labour in general.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, AWTG president Geronimo Venegas called for decent work in agriculture to be at the heart of plans and strategies to eliminate child labour and to ensure global food security. The full text of his speech can be read here.
