On June 21, after 22 days of strike action, the union of Borjomi workers reached an agreement with the management of IDB Borjomi Georgia including reinstatement of the workers who were illegally terminated.

Giorgi Diasamidze, Chair of the IUF affiliate Georgian Agriculture, Commercial and Industry Worker’s Trade Union, reported that the key demands of the workers through the strike had been met including:

  • workers with three-month, six-month and one-year term contracts will receive permanent contracts
  • workers terminated due to the expiration of fixed-term contracts will be reinstated
  • IDS Borjomi Georgia undertakes to allocate space in the factory for trade union activities and will provide transportation for workers as they did pre-pandemic

Marina Dvalashvili, a worker and union member at the Borjomi factory stated, “The agreement we signed is temporary, and we will start working on a new agreement in November. And while we are happy with our agreement, we know that the struggle continues, and we still have much work ahead. We thank Giorgi Diasamidze and all our trade union supporters, because without them we would not have achieved these important wins.”
