On this May 17, International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), the IUF stands with LGBTI workers and allies around the world in calling for an end to anti-LGBTI hate.

  • We call on governments around the world to hasten their efforts to ratify ILO Convention 190 on Violence and Harassment in the World of Work, the path-breaking convention which seeks to combat gender-based violence; LGBTI-phobia and gender-based violence are inextricably bound as both seek to diminish the rights and freedoms to live, work and love in peace
  • We call on employers to negotiate protections for LGBTI workers in accordance with the IUF Bargaining Guide for LGBTI Workers’ Rights
  • We call on all IUF affiliates to continue organizing, fighting and winning for LGBTI workers and to continue building coalitions with LGBTI organizations in our communities. Together we will win!
  • Having recently participated in ILGA’s World Conference in Los Angeles, California, we stand with ILGA, the largest LGBTI organization in the world, in promoting their theme for IDAHOBIT 2022: “Celebrating the Power of Love”

IUF Vice President and LGBTI Workers & Allies Committee Chair Michele Kessler stated, “We urge all our trade union members around the world to remember that ‘An injury to one is an injury to all’ requires us to speak out against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in our workplaces and in our communities. LGBTI rights are human rights!”
