On July 25 last year, the national department of tourism hosted the ceremonial signing of the country’s first national collective agreement for the hotel and restaurant sectors, with the participation of the Prime Minister. The IUF-affiliated National Federation of Agriculture, Food, Livestock, Hotels and tourism (FNAAEHT) is one of the signatories to the agreement through its membership in the national union center ONSLG.

The first-ever national agreement for the sector culminates decades of union work, beginning in 1991. In January 2018 a national commission was established by ministerial decree to finalize the terms of the agreement.

The agreement establishes the right to nominate union workplace representatives and requires employers to pay the legally established minimum wage.

The FNAAEHT has called on the relevant government authority to promote the agreement among all workers in the hotel and restaurant sectors.
