The third session of the FAO-sponsored Vigo dialogue which was held on October 4, 2016, brought together ILO sector department experts, fishing, processing and distribution companies – the seafood industry employers who participated in the Conxemar International Frozen Seafood Exhibition – and international trade union organizations (ITF, IUF, TUAC) to discuss the alarming human rights situation in the industry. The meeting concluded that there was a need for policy guidelines to be developed at the ILO level for the promotion of workers’ rights in the entire seafood value chain and called for ratification of the ILO Convention 188 on work in fishing.
