IUF affiliate, the Union of the Brewery Industry Workers of Panama (STICP) is organizing peaceful protests against outsourcing by Cervecería Nacional, a subsidiary of AB InBev in Panama. The protests, most recently at the Chorrera factory, are focused on the company’s decisions to:

  • Violate the terms of the current agreement which only allows third parties to do work which is “sporadic and fortuitous”
  • Outsource between 25% to 30 % of product deliveries, directly impacting around 200 permanent jobs and permanent workers’ salaries
  • Increase the use of outsourced workers over permanent workers despite a drop in the volume of production due to COVID-19

STICP General Secretary Jaime Acevedo said, “We are in this fight for fairness. If the company does not agree to resolve this conflict through dialogue, we will be forced to continue with our mobilizations and exercise our legitimate right to strike.”
