The IUF’s Korean hotel workers affiliate has ended a major recognition battle in the Cheju Island Paradise Casino, an in-hotel casino at the Grand Hotel in Cheju.

Over 100 workers, around 90 of them women, had successfully fought to upgrade their status from casual workers to permanent workers and have won the right to a new and independent union able to negotiate on their behalf.

Once they had successfully settled the issue of union rights, workers acted quickly and moved to an issue that was at the centre of the successful Lotte Hotel recognition struggle recently fought by the same union, that of sexual harassment. The new CBA includes provisions for a “Joint Union/Management Counter Measures To Avoid Sexual Harassment Committee”.
