For the 2022 Hotel Housekeepers Global Week of Action, IUF affiliates around the world focused on demands for improved health and safety conditions for workers negotiated with their unions.

  • Workers in Europe, North America and Latin America took action on a variety of key issues including their involvement in all decisions concerning OSH policies, safe transport for early and late shifts, and reduced workloads to prevent injuries
  • In the Caribbean region, hotel housekeepers met virtually to share experiences, to highlight the importance of OSH for the sector, and to underline the challenges facing the sector including major labour shortages
  • In Africa, workers and their unions met virtually to discuss the importance of fighting harassment including sexual harassment in the workplace and concluded that ratification and good implementation of C190 is an absolute priority for workers

“During the Hotel Housekeepers Global Week of Action, IUF affiliates are acting together in a coordinated way to ensure workers’ health and safety as well as good jobs for their members. We are also making clear during this week our strong commitment to fight against violence and harassment, including sexual harassment, and to campaign for the ratification of Convention 190,” stated Aurélie Egue of IUF affiliate FESYNTRA-HTA in Bénin.
