A series of negotiations between the management of the Transcorp Hilton Abuja Hotel in Nigeria and IUF affiliates NUHPSW and HAPSSSA has resulted in an agreement to secure jobs for one hundred workers in the housekeeping, banqueting, and gardening departments.

  • Fifty contract workers will be made permanent employees with full benefits including employer paid health insurance and holidays
  • 50 Team support staff who previously received only a basic salary without the service charge will be moved to contract status with fixed term contracts and additional benefits
  • The agreement took effect beginning September 1, 2022, and the hotel unions will be involved in the process of monitoring and implementing the agreement

“This agreement gives stability and employment protection to the most vulnerable workers in job classifications where precarious employment is widespread,” NUHPSW General Secretary Leke Success stated. “We are committed to ensuring stable and decent jobs for all hotel workers.”
