Members of the IUF's UK-affiliate Unite employed in hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and contract catering protested in London yesterday on the occasion of the 2nd Hospitality and Tourism Summit. While industry leaders from many major hospitality sector companies attending the summit were calling for more recognition of an industry they say will create 300,000 new jobs by 2020, workers were asking - "What kind of jobs?"

Colombia: banana workers prepare for national strike

After two months of fruitless negotiations, SINTRAINAGRO, the IUF-affiliated agricultural workers union of Colombia, has announced that its members are ready to strike in response to a proposal from the employers to reduce wages by up to 43% and to cut social benefits.18,000 workers are expected to join the strike.

Algerian catering workers commence hunger strike

UK Cadbury workers link with Egyptian union to stand up against Mondelēz human rights abuses

Members of UNITE at UK Cadbury are joining forces with fellow workers in Egypt to challenge human rights violations by Cadbury’s parent company Mondelez International. On May 2-3 Unite hosted two sacked workers from the Alexandria Cadbury plant - Nasr Awad and Hussein Ahmad - who were among the 5 founding members of an independent union dismissed last year as part of the company’s drive to crush the union.
