905Workers at Autogrill motorway outlets in the German states of Thuringia and Bavaria have been striking at various locations for more than 1,700 hours since April to bring the company back to the negotiating table for a first-ever collective agreement which would improve conditions by setting wages, vacations, bonuses and supplementary payments. Many Autogrill workers have not had a pay rise for many years and some earn hourly wages of less than €8.50 per hour - the future minimum under Germany's new minimum wage law.

Autogrill Germany is part of the Italian-based Autogrill Corporation, majority-owned by the Edizione Holding controlled by the Benetton Family. The world's biggest provider of catering and retail services for travelers, Autogrill has some 62,000 employees at around 1,200 locations in 37 countries.
