Coca-Cola's Australian-based bottler Coca-Cola Amatil is systematically violating basic rights in an effort to stamp out independent and democratic trade unions at its Indonesian operations. And Coca-Cola corporate management in the US knows the full history but has failed to remedy the abuses. 
Worker rights are under attack by two of Coca-Cola's major bottlers, in Indonesia and in the Philippines. 
Workers at Coca-Cola Indonesia's operations in West Java organized a protest action at Coca-Cola Indonesia head office in Jakarta against jobs destruction on February 24 after management refused to engage in negotiations concerning the employment status and rights of over 1,800 contract workers. Management further redefined "core" and "non-core" positions to exclude the vast majority of permanent workers from core positions.
Coca-Cola Iberian Partners (CCIP), a company created from the integration of seven Coca-Cola bottling companies in Spain, announced the shutdown of four of its 11 plants on December 10, 2013. The bottling plants in the Balearic Islands, Southeastern Alicante Northwestern Asturias and Madrid regions are to be closed affecting nearly 1,200 workers.
Thousands of workers from Germany`s largest beverage company, Coca-Cola (CCE AG) organized by IUF affiliated NGG will be staging 2 weeks of warning strikes at about 60 sites of Coca-Cola in Germany against the company`s plan over restructuring, job cuts and more flexible working hours.
For the past two years Coca-Cola Philippines has aggressively imposed a new personal performance system on thousands of workers, effectively replacing wage bargaining rights with arbitrary individual wage increases and a series of penalties including zero wage rises and termination in just 6 months.
