The abuse of migrant workers employed by labour hire contractors in Australia has again been exposed by the IUF affiliated National Union of Workers (NUW).

With the support of their union, migrant workers are claiming more than $56,000 in underpayments from employment agency companies contracted to two of Australia’s biggest chicken processors; Turi Foods and Baiada.

In calling on poultry companies to directly hire workers, NUW National Secretary Tim Kennedy commented publicly that “the contracting model being used in the poultry industry leads to exploitation of workers employed by a third party and undercuts conditions enjoyed by those employed directly.”
